Basic License


Category A1 is typically for Line Maintenance engineers, authorized to perform routine maintenance and inspections on aircraft.

  • Educational Qualification: Typically, candidates need a high school diploma or equivalent, although a technical or engineering qualification is often preferred.
  • Practical Experience: A minimum of 2 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience is required for those without an engineering degree.
  • Complete required modules covering aircraft maintenance principles, maintenance practices, and aircraft systems, which are typically shorter and less advanced than those for B1.1 and B2.
  • 2.Candidates must pass written exams for each module. These exams test basic understanding and knowledge of aircraft systems, tools, and procedures.
  • The candidate must also undergo on-the-job training in a live aviation environment, gaining practical experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Once the exams and practical experience are completed, the candidate can apply for the Part-66 Cat A1 license.
